5 Tips to Transition Your Summer Wardrobe to Fall Looks!

Let's face it, shopping every season can get a little pricey. One of the best ways to get ready for Fall to make your summer pieces more fall appropriate instead of ditching them altogether. Here are some of the easiest ways to stretch your wardrobe and make all your old favorites work until winter.

1. Keep Your Maxi Dresses

Maxis are easy, comfortable and cool for hot summers. But before you hide them in the back of your closet, refashion them by wearing them with a nice jacket or cardigan. Whether it’s a belted blazer, or a knit sweater, the trick to wearing a maxi dress in the fall is to layer up. The end result is a beautiful fall casual outfit.

2. Add Tights

Adding tights to your outfit is a quick and easy way to add pattern, color, and texture for the fall. Stock up on tights, which are generally affordable at $6 to $15, you have a way to extend the life of your favorite summer skirts and dresses. It's my favorite way to extend the life of my summer looks. Look for opaque tights or fun textures. A pair of gray textured tights with your favorite Skater dress or skirt and some boots is cheap, easy and oh so cute!

3. Layer Up

As you layer up your summer clothes, you create new looks that will keep you warm as temperatures start to dip.

Layer long over lean. This means matching up longer-length tops (think tunics or boyfriend cardigans) over leaner bottoms, such as tights or skinny jeans. This can help you extend some of your summer favorites, like long tank tops.

Then, add a sweater or jacket, a light scarf, and a pair of boots to finish your perfect fall outfit.

4. Add Deeper Colors

I love the colors that come with the changing of the leaves. You can add a couple of pieces to extend the life of your lighter clothes.

Take a dusty rose dress, for instance. If you add some heavier textures and jewel tones, you’ll be able to keep wearing it. Consider pairing it with a plum cardigan and a sleek pair of brown booties.

The addition of a deeper colors tones down the brightness, resulting in a more cohesive and fall outfit.

5. Buy Boots

Boots are an autumn staple if there ever was one. They will easily make all of your summer outfits warmer and more functional. While you can spend a ton of money on good-quality boots, you can get  a few pairs of lower-cost fashion boots. These will look great and work for the temperatures in the fall, and you'll only need one or two functional pairs for the winter.

Wear summer dresses with knee-high boots and a leather jacket. Add over-the-knee boots and chunky sweater over a tunic top and leggings for a “city look.” You can even buy booties cheap and wear them with your favorite skirt and cardigan combo, just throw in some textured tights. Make sure to allocate some of your fall fashion budget on a couple of pairs in different heights.
